About Dr. Avis Jones-DeWeever

Dr. Avis is a passionate race and gender empowerment expert, which is reflected in her award winning book “How Exceptional Black Women Lead”.  She regularly voices her views on race and gender equality, as well as current political issues of the day as a contributor on PBS’ To the Contrary, Sirius XM Radio, the Huffington Post, NBC BLK, Black Enterprise and formerly, TV One’s NewsOne Now with Roland Martin.

Under the Obama Administration, Dr. Avis trained women on political and entrepreneurial success on behalf of U.S. Embassies across the globe. She also had the honor of being the Keynote Speaker to President Obama’s Inaugural President of the United States’ Young African Leaders Summit and was a Featured Speaker before the World Bank.

Dr. Avis obtained her Ph.D in Political Science (University of Maryland, College Park) and B.A  in Political Science (Virginia State University) which helped shape her to serve as the youngest ever Executive Director of the National Council of Negro Women, a historic membership organization touching the lives of over four million women of African descent worldwide.As a prolific writer, Dr. Avis is the author or co-author of numerous publications including, The State of Black Women in the US 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017; Beyond Broke:  Why Closing the Racial Wealth Gap is a Priority for National Economic Security; and Massive Resistance:  A Way Forward for Black America in the Wake of Trump.  Her distinct perspectives have been shared on some of the world’s most prestigious media platforms including CNN, NBC News, BET, FOX News, USA Today, the Washington Post, EBONY Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Essence Magazine and many more.
