On Sunday, February 25, 2018 Filmmaker and Producer Omegia Keeys will premiere her new project FROM JIM TO JAMES CROW the docu-series in Atlanta, GA.
Inspired by the events around the country that prompted NFL player Colin Kaepernick to begin kneeling, Keeys was already searching for a way to use her craft to bring attention to the injustices she was witnessing. The controversy surrounding Kaepernick provided the spark. “Someone who never served told me how it is disrespectful to the military what he was doing,” Keeys says. “Being a vet, it got to me. Kneeling is exactly what soldiers fight for. There’d already been so much brewing in me, and I feel we are at another pivotal point in time.”
That led her to want to document the truth about racism in this country, it’s history and the way it is affecting things today. As part of the dialogue Keeys was able to conduct interviews with individuals who have witnessed the injustices, been affected by it and offer their own viewpoint on where we are today.
“As a filmmaker I’m able to make my voice and others bigger,” says Keeys. “I hope by inviting the hard conversations will invoke change and educate those who don’t know the true history.”
