at-risk students to despair and little hope, Destiny Achievers Academy of Excellence (DAAOE) is winning the battle. Accordingly, to celebrate the achievement of their students and community partners, a year of success will culminate on May 19, 2017 with its first annual Overcomers Awards Gala.
at-risk students to despair and little hope, Destiny Achievers Academy of Excellence (DAAOE) is winning the battle. Accordingly, to celebrate the achievement of their students and community partners, a year of success will culminate on May 19, 2017 with its first annual Overcomers Awards Gala.
As a part of DAAOE Awards Gala, Hank Johnson, U.S. Representative, Georgia’s 4th Congressional District; and Larry Johnson, Commissioner, DeKalb County District 3, will be on hand. Recipients of this year’s DAAOE Award of Excellence include five students who have excelled in a variety of categories. Additionally, community partners making a difference in the lives of students will be recognized.
DAAOE is a non-traditional high school serving students who are emancipated, single parents, court-involved, or otherwise disadvantaged. One of only three schools in the State of Georgia meeting the needs of this extremely challenged segment of students, DAAOE boasts an impressive 75% graduation rate and takes great pride in providing resources and services beyond the classroom. This dynamic celebration features nationally acclaimed TV Judge Glenda Hatchett of The Hatchett Firm, who will deliver a powerful keynote address on the importance of self-pride and overcoming obstacles for greatness.
This year’s Gala has the noble goal of raising $50,000 to purchase laptops for students to bridge the digital divide affecting many Title I students. Due to the socioeconomic levels of our students, many do not have access to the technology they need to complete homework assignments. Together we can level the playing-field for all students through our giving. Please join our efforts.
